Chillers, freezers & combination rooms

Cold Rooms We Design & Install

Every cold room is designed around your stock, your space and the temperature you need to hold.

01

Chiller Rooms

Walk-in chilled storage, typically 0°C to +5°C, for fresh food, drinks, dairy, flowers and other temperature-sensitive stock.

02

Freezer Rooms

Walk-in freezers, typically -18°C to -25°C, with thicker insulation, insulated floors and heated door frames.

03

Combination Rooms

A chiller and freezer built side by side, often with access to the freezer through the chiller to save space and energy.

04

Bespoke Walk-In Rooms

Custom sizes and layouts to fit awkward spaces, basements, back-of-house areas, outbuildings and warehouses.

Cold Rooms Built To Protect Your Stock

A cold room is a long-term investment. We size the refrigeration correctly for your stock, door openings and room conditions, so it holds temperature reliably on the busiest days without wasting energy.

Because we install and service refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps, we can also look after your cold room with regular maintenance once it is up and running.

Chiller Room Vs Freezer Room

Both are built from insulated panels, but they are designed very differently to hold their temperature.

Chiller Rooms

For chilled food, drinks, dairy, produce and flowers.

  • Typically held between 0°C and +5°C
  • Insulated wall and ceiling panels
  • Hinged or sliding insulated door
  • Strip curtains to reduce cold air loss
  • Temperature display and alarm

Freezer Rooms

For frozen food and long-term storage, built to hold much lower temperatures.

  • Typically held between -18°C and -25°C
  • Thicker panels and an insulated floor
  • Heated door frame to stop the door freezing shut
  • Pressure relief valve and internal safety release

What Goes Into Designing A Cold Room

We look at these key points during your free site survey, so your cold room works properly from day one.

01

Size & Stock

How much you store, how it is shelved and how often you restock decides the room size and cooling load.

02

Temperature

The temperature you need to hold sets the panel thickness, floor and refrigeration system.

03

Location & Space

Indoors, basement, yard or outbuilding: we plan access, drainage and ventilation around your site.

04

Refrigeration Type

Integral (monoblock) or remote split systems, with the condensing unit placed where it suits your building.

05

Doors, Floor & Controls

Door type, floor finish, lighting, shelving, temperature monitoring and alarms, all specified for your use.

Food safety: a correctly designed cold room with temperature monitoring makes it easier to keep records and meet your HACCP and food hygiene requirements.

Cold Room FAQs

Answers to the questions we are asked most about cold room design and installation.

Chiller rooms are usually held between 0°C and +5°C, and freezer rooms between -18°C and -25°C. The right setting depends on what you store, and we design the system to hold it reliably.

Most standard cold rooms are installed in a few days once the panels and refrigeration equipment are on site. Larger or bespoke rooms can take longer, and we give you a timeline with your quote.

Cold rooms can be built to almost any size, from small walk-in chillers to large storage rooms. We measure your space and design a room that makes the most of it, including shelving and door position.

An integral (monoblock) system has all the refrigeration in one unit mounted on the room. A remote split system places the condensing unit elsewhere, such as outside, which keeps heat and noise away from your working area.

Yes. Cold rooms can be installed in yards, outbuildings or other outdoor areas with suitable weatherproofing, a solid base and a safe power supply. We check this during the site survey.

Yes. Regular servicing keeps the refrigeration system efficient, helps prevent breakdowns and stock loss, and supports your food safety records. We service cold rooms as well as installing them.

Yes. Every cold room we install is designed around your space, stock and temperature requirements, including custom sizes, door types, shelving and temperature monitoring.
